When we speak of a “yeast” infection, what we usually mean is infection with a specific fungus, Candida Albicans.  Virtually all of us have “colonies” of this usually harmless yeast fungus, living peacefully in our intestinal tract (and vaginal tract in women).  Yeast feeds on sugars and food high in sugar.  Diets with plenty of vegetables, nuts, grains, fish, fowl, and drinking lots of water to flush, will help you fight Candida.  Normally, it does no harm, because it is kept in check by beneficial bacteria, flora.  These bacteria, however, can be destroyed by birth control pills, antibiotics, cortisone drugs, poor diet and extreme stress.  When this occurs, Candida can grow out of control.
